I have no idea how Samsung implemented this, but the fact remains: the smartphone can be used underwater, all programs launch correctly and work as usual. There is only one drawback to using the device underwater: the speakers need time to dry. Otherwise, the sound will be very quiet and “float” in volume.

Shock resistance

Compared to last year's model, the body of the Samsung Galaxy s 7 edge has not only grown in size due to the larger battery, but has also become stronger. When creating the phone, reinforced frames (aluminum alloy No. 6013) were used, the design of the smartphone was completely revised, so that impacts would cause less damage to the insides and glass of the new Galaxy s 7 edge... So you can say after studying the gadget in all its technical characteristics, but what is it really like?

When writing this article, I looked at several Crash tests of this device. In one of them, a one-kilogram hammer is thrown at a smartphone, and then they hit the display with it. When a hammer falls from a small height, the Edge patient feels great. There aren't even any traces of impact. But after 9 powerful and juicy hits on the display, the fun begins. Within the first five hits you begin to see the matrix, but the sensor continues to work. After three more strikes, your Samsung Galaxy s7 edge continues to work, but the sensor is no longer active, but even on the 11th strike the smartphone still shows! It doesn't turn off, it flickers, but it gives a picture. I was amazed how the phone was able to withstand this. He's really hard to kill.

But it’s unlikely that anyone will give such hardcore treatment to their smartphone. In a more real test, one might say an everyday one, the smartphone was dropped from the level of the waist, head (approximately 182 cm) and a height of 3 meters. The phone was compared with the iPhone 6s Plus. Having watched more than one Crash Test of these flagships, I noticed this feature: the 6s Plus bounces off the ground more, while the s7 edge has virtually no bounce. This can be explained by the design: most of the iPhone is made of aluminum, while Samsung only has aluminum edges, and all other surfaces are glass. But this is the key thing when falling: Samsung does not cushion itself.

From waist height, both phones perform well. Smartphones get minor scratches, which are not a problem as such. Both gadgets can withstand even a fall face down with “Hurray!” But from head height the situation already changes somewhat: when dropped on the side edge (which, by the way, only gets a small dent), the Galaxy s7 edge becomes covered with a web of cracks on the back cover, while the 6s Plus only has a small dent and a couple of scratches on the body. In the final part of the test, the flagships are thrown from the ceiling level of the apartment, and here the Galaxy s7 has no chance when dropped. The screen is breaking. While the iPhone absorbs this blow with its rebound and the screen only receives a couple of new scratches.

But even after the falls, the phones continued to work correctly and respond. The conclusion will be this: Galaxy s7 edge is very good in terms of shock resistance, but loses to the iPhone in shock resistance.

Ergonomics

The smartphone fits comfortably in your hand : nothing crashes, everything is in its place and despite the large screen, everything is within reach. The smartphone is not bulky: the size feels very similar to the Galaxy s7, but with a 5.5 screen. My hands did not notice any flaws with the placement of buttons or other elements.

To be honest, it’s nice that the phone has almost no pre-installed software: all elements can be deleted. Actually, there will be a minimum of excess.

Many reviewers will draw your attention to the fact that the smartphone doesn’t even have a Samsung player in stock. Like, there is only Play Music. I think this is true. For example, I have Apple Music android installed, and I personally don’t need a simple player. Just an extra program. How many of us use VK player? In a word, Koreans are great. Well, for those who still need a player from Samsung, you can always download it from the manufacturer’s official application store.

CPU

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge uses two chipsets: the first is the eight-core Exynos Octa 8890 (which will be installed on most models) and the Snapdragon 820. I can’t say that I’m generally delighted with the colors of this brand’s phones. It seems very unnatural to me, even with the calmest screen setting, but this, so to speak, is a matter of taste. I am convinced that the color of the iPhone is better: it is more natural, and the eyes don’t get so tired from the screen. Although the color is not to my taste, I really liked that the smartphone does not go blind in the sun, for which the developers are honored and praised.

I don’t see any point in discussing expansion and pixel density. In this matter, all today's flagships show excellent results, but it’s worth talking about the ease of use of the screen with working edges. I am delighted with this idea. With it, the 5.5-inch diagonal is used as conveniently and productively as possible, plus the smartphone does not get overly large and therefore fits perfectly in the hand. If, again, we return to the comparison with the iPhone, then the 6s Plus fits much worse in the hand and is easier to drop. What can I say, because of these huge frames on the edges of the iPhone screen, even the Chinese Meizu M2 note or Pro 5 lies more confidently in the hand.

The side edges of the s7 edge provide it with maximum use of the “dead zones” of the screen, on which, by the way, a convenient menu is installed. I appreciated the idea; my phone also has a 5.5-inch display, but working with the Samsung screen was much more efficient and enjoyable.

My impression after using the new edge display is the most positive, but there is one aspect: it will be easier to scratch or break such glass than the same s7, and even though the company swears that it is over-strengthened, and the like, I don’t believe in it. In crash tests, iPhone glass holds up much better. And there is also the issue of price. The glass on the s6 edge+ cost a fortune and I dare say that the price will not drop with the new model.

So there are two conclusions here: 1 - do not drop it and treat the phone as carefully as possible, 2 - when buying it, be prepared to pay a third of the amount to replace the screen if it falls.

Super fast memory is never enough

Last year, the Korean company decided to abandon microSD, but this caused great indignation among fans and smartphone owners, and this year Samsung returned this technology to its flagships. At the time of writing, the phone supports flash drives up to 200 GB, but the company promises to support cards up to 2 TB in the near future. I also remind you that the new flagship uses high-speed memory of the UFS 2.0 standard, which ensures the fastest file system write speed. As for the built-in memory, smartphones will be produced in two versions: 32 and 64 GB.

Communication capabilities

In this part of the review, I will tell you about the things that amazed me about the new s7 edge. I won’t tell you for a long time about the fact that Bluetooth 4.2 began to work faster and over a longer distance, as well as about other similar things. And I’ll tell you about the daily bread of a poor student: a Wi-Fi repeater.
Usually, when you create an access point, the smartphone immediately turns off Wi-Fi and this is not always convenient. But in Samsung Galaxy s7 edge, this does not happen.
